Hey Grads, You'll Make Mistakes (and that's ok)

From our new office at 1020 West 18th Street in Wilmington, the team and I want to congratulate all of you who are graduating this year, some of you are graduating high school, some of you graduating college with your undergrad or postgrad.

Congratulations!

This is the time of the year that we get to celebrate with you. As you're graduating and moving on to whatever this next phase comes to, eventually you're going to go into the workforce. Here are just a couple of quick things to think about as you move forward.

Spend less than you earn
Be careful with debt
Read, grow, become

You are becoming someone that you've dreamed about and someone that you’ve built. You're going to become that person by what you read moving forward. Make mistakes, of course not on purpose. Make decisions that include adventures. Adventures like jumping out of an airplane with a parachute would be appropriate for some of you, not me, but for some of you.

I want to encourage you, don't be afraid to make mistakes. The next 40 or 50 years of your life are going to be filled with a lot of big decisions, and you don't want to make decisions so big that they cost you too much time to recover. It's important to remember that making mistakes is ultimately how we learn.

Lastly, here are a couple of quick books.

● Are you a Stock or a Bond? is a fantastic book for starting out in your career.

● Rocket Fuel, whether you're operating and functioning in a larger organization or whether you're starting something on your own, "Rocket Fuel" is a great perspective for how to think about leading people.

● The Psychology of Money is one of my top five books on money that is beneficial for both young and older people.
