Never Waste a Crisis - Adapting to Serve Our Clients
There is a phrase that some people have used, rather awkwardly, but "Never waste a crisis."
We here at Vizionary Wealth are not going to waste this crisis. We are going to use this crisis to accelerate the projects we were already working on like:
- How to communicate more effectively with our clients
- How to rapidly push out more social media content
- How to improve the content itself to be as helpful as possible
So we're using this time of market disruption to be very productive behind the scenes.
Building our Partnership with Wealth Plan Partners
You've heard me say a number of times talking about "rebalancing" and the "trading on the platform" and those kinds of things.
I want to give a shout out to our team at Wealth Plan Partners. Jack Holmes is the Chief Investment Officer there, and our partnership with them two years ago is really beginning to pay dividends right now. They are providing exceptionally deep research for us - ideas that we would not have come up with on our own.
They're helping us to adjust the portfolio sectors and businesses to look at within the portfolio. They are providing technological integration, allowing us to rebalance portfolios much more rapidly.
Now in this kind of environment we find out where each and every gap in our process is. Even in this past week, we've had the opportunity to eliminate a couple of gaps in communication and improve our processes and operations with Wealth Plan.
They're doing a fantastic job behind the scenes helping us execute and scale the work that we're doing for you as our clients. We want to continue to improve things here.
Finding Opportunity in Coronavirus Disruption
Now this is Monday, the 23rd of March, and I do want to just acknowledge stock market's down again today. Bond market is badly disrupted at this point. So the commercial loan market. The commercial mortgage market is very, very badly disrupted right now.
We were looking at a company today that they own mortgages. So if you think a $100,000,000 building with a $60,000,000 mortgage, they own that $60 million mortgage. Well that mortgage is now trading at about 20 cents on a dollar in the market. It's literally down about 80% off of its valuation. That's how badly disrupted the bond market is right now.
It is actually worse than what we saw in 2008 - 2009 crisis. I don't say that to create fear for you. Hopefully, if you've heard anything from me, it creates opportunity.
If we can go buy a portfolio of bonds or a buy a portfolio of assets at a time like this where the prices are massively disrupted, that is a huge opportunity. We're viewing that as an opportunity to evaluate companies, evaluate assets, to consider moving assets, moving money into those categories.
Staying Connected During Crisis
It's still a very disruptive time. Still a very emotional time. If you're a praying person, pray for those medical personnel who are on the front lines of this - the doctors, the nurses, the folks who work in the hospitals. Let's keep them in our best thoughts and do everything we can to support them.
Part of that means isolating ourselves physically. I'm very frustrated with the term social distancing. It's not a social distance, it's a physical distance. Socially, we need to stay connected.
We need to check in on family members, on friends, and stay emotionally and socially connected. We do, however, need to keep physically distanced during this time.
I'd encourage you to reach out to us if you are feeling isolated or alone. Connect with family members. Connect with friends. Have a Zoom call or Facebook live or use other ways to connect socially and emotionally even while we're isolated physically.
I hope you're having a great day. It's a little rainy here on the East coast, a little drizzly, and it makes it feel a little icky, but we're going to get through this. It's going to be okay. Here at Vizionary, we are continuing to largely work remotely and certainly keeping our physical distance from everyone.
Be safe. Be healthy. Please feel free to communicate with us if you have any questions at all about your portfolio or the strategies that we're implementing. Have a great day.
